Transmission and Infection
Incubation period is typically 5-15 days. Infection patterns are not known.
Pathogenicity and Virulence
Clinical Manifesations
Patients develop a high fever lasting 3-5 days, along with:
- cough
- nasal congestion
- erythematous pharynx, tonsils, TM
- cervical lymphadenopathy
- bulging anterior fontanelle if CNS involvement
- rash appears after fever ends: pink, non-pruritic macules and papules which coalesce and disappear within 1-2 days
Complications include febrile seizures and encephalitis.
Diagnosis
Treatment
Treatment is supportive, including acetaminophen.
