The stethescope is the stereotypic piece of medical equipment, and for good reason. It is a direct extension of the sense of hearing, allowing direct access to the subtleties of the body's sounds.
The cardiovascular exam is not the only use of the stethescope. No way. It is also critical for examining the lungs and can also tell you things about the guts.
