• peripheral blood smear

Students will be expected to explain the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and course of the following:

Platelet and Clotting Disorders deep vein thrombosis disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) hemophilia A & B von Willebrand’s Disease idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP)

Treatments

Students should be able to explain the indications, contraindications, and adverse effects of:

• blood/blood product transfusion
• bloodless medicine
• splenectomy
• bone marrow transplant

Students should also explain the general side effects of chemotherapy.
