Expression

• Fibrinogen is produced in the liver and present in the plasma and interstitial fluid
• Fibrinogen is cleaved to produce insoluble fibrin strands by thromin, which is activated in large quantities followed by tissue injury
• Fibrin clots are dissolved by plasmin

Function

• Fibrinopeptides criss-cross each other to produce a clot
• Fibrin fragments produced by plasmin are chemotactic for neutrophils
