Fibrin
Expression
- Fibrinogen is produced in the liver and present in the plasma and interstitial fluid
- Fibrinogen is cleaved to produce insoluble fibrin strands by thromin, which is activated in large quantities followed by tissue injury
- Fibrin clots are dissolved by plasmin
Function
- Fibrinopeptides criss-cross each other to produce a clot
- Fibrin fragments produced by plasmin are chemotactic for neutrophils
