- history and physical exam
- lab investigations

History and Physical Exam
- weakness is the most common symptom, and is most often large muscle groups of the trunk or extremities
- diplopia
- dysarthria and dysphagia
- respiratory insufficiency or myocardial depression may indicate hypophosphatemia
neurologic:
- paresthesias
- altered mental status
- coma
- hypotension and other signs of congestive heart failure
- skin and conjunctivae may be pale secondary to the hemolytic anemia that may complicate hypophosphatemia.
