One of the targets of the UN's Millenium Development Goals (#7) is to "Halve, by 2015, the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation". While much progress is being made, there is still significant work to do in sub-Saharan Africa and Oceania, particularly in rural areas.
