Introduction

Encopresis refers to fecal incontince on a child >4 years old, at least once monthly, for 3 months. It occurs in 1-1.5% of school-aged children, decreasing with age. It is more ocmmon in males.

Differential Diagnosis

Encopresis is most commonly seen with chronic constipation.

Other causes include:

Retentive encopresis follows anal fissure, causing pain, or emotional difficulties.
