Mites only live 24-48 hours outside the body.
Always consider in anyone who is really itchy
Can find burrows if you look hard
Lesions are generally small.
Lesions can be locaized or widespread.
Treat all close contacts: permethrin cream, 2x treatments one week apart
lindane lotion 1% qhs; not in children
may also need treatment for dermatitis (ie cortisone)
wash linens and clothes
Itch persists for 1-2 weeks after treatment, so don't assume treatment failure early.
