Patients and caregivers can be very angry, especially when serious diseases are involved. Oftentimes, the anger is related to past hurt, and has nothing to do with the health care provider.
It is important to have a plan ready for dealing with and deflecting the anger.
You can let the anger go for a while, letting patients vent. However, if it continues, address it. Say "you seem angry," and see where it goes.
