T Cell Receptor (gene name)
Add brief intro here
Expression
- T Cell Receptor is expressed by T Lymphocytes
- Different combinations of TCR are present on different T cell populations; over 95% of T cells express the αβ TCR
Function
- TCR recognizes antigen presented on MHC I or II molecules. Contact results in T cell activation
Interactions and Signalling
- TCR present on the cell surface interacts with antigen presented on MHC I and II molecules.
- Polyclonal TCRs can be activated by superantigens, resulting in a cytokine storm
- Signal transduction following TCR activation involves CD3 and ZAP70, amongst many others.
Role in Disease
- if any
Structure
- TCR is composed of two chains. The alpha chain is similar to immunoglobin Heavy chain, while the beta chain is similar to the Light chain.
Gene and Processing
- TCR are produced by gene rearrangement of VDJ regions, involving the Rag protein.
