Polyenes
Amphotericin B
creates pores in the fungal cell wall
Azoles
Also act on cell wall.
Interact with cyt P450.
Fluconazole
- good against C. albicans and the majority of yeasts
- C. krusei, C. glabrata show resistance
- resistance can develop
- IV and oral
- well tolerated
Itraconazole
- active against Aspergillus
Voriconazole, ravuconazole, posaconazole
- wider spectrum
- Aspergilus,
- can cause visual disturbances in 30%
- QT prolongation
- IV formulation in
Echinocandins
Caspofungin
Inhibit glucan synthesis
use if renal impairment
